Academic Language Week 31 - Teen Vandals

Parents of teen vandals should not be held responsible for their child's damage? One reason is because the laws are not specific on the most the parents have to pay and the types of vandalism that is included.
Another reason is if a student vandalises something and the parents have to pay for it then the consequences won’t compute with the students actions because they are not being held responsible for their actions. Additionally, the students won’t achieve anything in life if they get away with their wrongdoings in high school by having their parents take responsibility for their actions instead of themselves. In conclusion,teens should know the difference between right and wrong, so they should know that they need to take responsibility for their actions.

Academic Language Week 30 - "D" Grades

Schools should eliminate "D" grades. One reason is because it can compensate the amount of students by encouriging them to try and work harder to have a passing grade. Another reason is that the students may interact with each other and their teachers more to keep up with their grades by doing extra credit or making study groups with friends. And lastly when students first begin school or a new semester they initially haveno grades at all until they turn in their first work and get it graded. Taking away "D" grades have pros and cons but it all depends on the person some people just don't do well in school while others are just lazy and those who do well in school don't have to worry about not being able to get a "D" grade.

Academic Language Week 28 - School use of GPS devices

Global Positioning System (GPS) devices should be required for habitually truant students.One reason is yes because it will help to administer more discipline to the students who are constantly truant. Another reason is that it will also help to make the students follow the school conduct which has a rule a rule about truancies. Additionally, the element of using a GPS is to see where the students are going when they become truant so that they can get them back to class after applying a form of punishment. In conclusion,  using GPS devices with decrease the amount of truant students and possibly increase the amount of students who graduate. Also making sure no one is truant can help to make sure that no one is leaving school to do drugs.

Academic Language Week 27 - Drug-Sniffing Dogs

School officials do have the right to use drug-sniffing dogs. One reason is if someone assumes that someone else is using drugs they should report it and get it checked. Another reason is that a good process to using drug dogs to to not let the students at school know that they’re going to get checked. Additionally the students who respond badly to have drug dogs check their school is because they are afraid of getting caught. In conclusion, having drug-sniffing dogs is a great way to get teens to stay away from drugs because they won't want to chance getting caught. Being checked frequently can most likely stop an addiction better than you can stop yourself because nobody want to get thrown in jail over something so stupid so why get addicted?

Academic Language Week 2 - Cars

I would like to have a car that drives itself. One reason is because it will decrease the percentage of car accidents that occur tremendously. Another reason is because our generation is proceeding to the future and being able to make cars that drive themselves is an incredibly good start to the future. Additionally there should still be a certain method in making these cars so that they won't be able to take control over the owner even though that situation is highly impossible. In conclusion I believe that it will be a great experience to have cars that can drive themselves so that people won't have to worry about getting in a crash and bringing harm not only to themselves but possibly to others as well. Having cars drive themselves will make the streets that much safer.

Academic Language Week 25 - Concealed Handguns

Adults should have the right to carry a concealed handgun. One reason is that it is established in the Bill of Rights that men have the right to bear arms. Another reason is that it can protect you when there is sudden danger. Additionally if someone is pointing a gun at someone else you can point your gun at them and indicate for them to put their gun down. In conclusion having a gun is a great advantage if used correctly and it may seem safer when some people don't know that you have a gun.

Academic Language Week 24 - Online Learning

Is online learning an effective way to educate students?  I do not believe online learning to be an effective way to educate students for three reasons. Firstly it's somtimes better to be in an area where you can get more clarification from a teacher or other students and you can't exactly get that online. Secondly if it involves college, yes online classes may be cheaper but what's the fun in that, what life changing choices will you experience if you stay home on the computer? Lastly I do not agree with online classes because it's easy to differentiate the statistics between taking classes online and taking classes in a classroom and see which one is really better. Is it really enough to listen to a lecture on the subject you're learning about and do the work on the computer to truly understand what you're learning or would you rather have the same lecture and be able to ask question to get a better understanding of your work.

Academic Language Week 23 - Dog Fighting

Should dog fighting be illegal?  Dog fighting should be  illegal.  One reason is because dogs are very distinct from humans but they can feel pain the same way we can. Another reason is because every time there is a fight dogs will potentially get hurt.  Lastly the formula used to make these fights a success is because the owners find different ways to make the dogs even more pissed and even more dangerous. Imagine if you protective house dog was stolen. Would you want them used in a dog fight just for the entertainment of others?

Academic Language Week 22 - Felons Voting

I don't believe that felons should be allowed to vote.  One reason is because that maybe there would be a complex situation where the felons have to leave jail or prison to go to the voting booths. Is it really relevent to let felons leave the only secure place to keep residents safe just to make a vote. The last reason is that felons may be getting wrong information from their scources in the outside world and therefor might not make their reasons for voting for a certain candidate accurate. Make sure that you think of all the pros and cons that could happen if thinking on whether or not felons should be allowed to vote.

Academic Language Week 21 - Steroids

I think that steroids should not be allowed in sports. One reason that I think this is because it ruins your hormones or changes them if you use them for a long period of time.. Secondly I believe that it is a form of cheating and athletes' are primarily chosen by their own strength not by something that enhances that strength. The last reason is that traditionally it was only used to make it easier to win competitions but now athletes' are over using them just to look good.
