Jammer Thanksgiving Dinner
First-Person Narration from the Cook’s Point of ViewI’m Lana, the head cook for the Jammer Dinner that the Jammer family is throwing every year around thanksgiving for the poor souls that have lost the joy of being in a family or have grown to old to get adopted. I’m so proud of those children for being so strong in their hardships. I love making food for the SPA children and seeing the smiles and joy that light up their faces when they come. This dinner gives the children a sense of hope and love that they dearly miss. Why do I speak for them in this matter? It’s because i was in the same situation and I have gone through the same feelings. The only difference was I didn’t get all the opportunities that these children have now and so i didn’t take advantage of what i was given. Instead what the state did do for me was make me dependent on it. Enough about me though I’m here to talk about the precious children. Sometimes though I don’t like the children who come to these dinner because they act ungrateful when they should be thanking all of us who do all this hard work for them. What helps me to keep being nice are the few children who come to get the food and their faces just light up with happiness and they say thank you and they use those manners and they just make you want to hug them. I love those few children because they are what help me be nice to the other kids because it lets me know that even though they act ungrateful...it’s just a mask.
Third-Person Narration Based on Friends
Everyone was so excited as they were getting ready for the yearly Jammer dinner. They were all stressing about what they were going to wear, what would impress their boyfriend/girlfriend the most (if they had one), and how to do their hair and or make-up. Frankie was the most enthusiastic in what she wore for the dinner then the other girls. They were all so anxious to get on the bus and start heading towards the dinner party. Frankie’s best friend Erika was always there with her, outside of the bus and on it. All the girls were so happy and excited that when their favorite songs came on the radio they were all singing to them even though they couldn’t sing. When the buses got to the museum where the dinner was taking place everyone went nuts because, first off they wanted to get inside since it was so cold out, and second off they wanted to see Mr. Jammer again or introduce themselves to him and his family. They all had a great early thanksgiving and thought that the entertainment was so spectacular that their faces were frozen in amazement. Everyone was so sad to go that they all looked like they wanted to cry but they also looked exhausted since it had also been a long night full of all the fun they experienced.
Narrator Expository ParagraphThe choice of narrator can change story by changing the sureness of the characters thoughts and feelings. For example in a first-person narrator the author uses the terms I or me, to describe themselves. A story in first person has more understanding to each character and their thoughts and feeling because the authors are letting you experience what the character is going through and no one else. In a third-person narration you are having the possible thoughts and feelings every character because you are now on the inside looking out instead of the opposite. This meaning that you can only see other characters facial expressions and you are only guessing from their reactions what the character is thinking about or how they are feeling. That is the difference between a first person narrative and a third person narrative. The first two paragraphs are mainly unreliable but there are a few credible details in the second paragraph.
